Guide on how to look your best! (back to top)
MEMORABLE PORTRAITS REQUIRE CAREFUL PLANNING, AND THE CLOTHING YOU CHOOSE IS VERY IMPORTANT TO THE SUCCESS OF YOUR PORTRAIT SESSION. THESE GUIDELINES AND OUR PERSONAL CONSULTATION WILL HELP YOU MAKE IMPORTANT DECISIONS ABOUT CLOTHING AND THE STYLE OF YOUR ARTWORK.

Portraits are best when the viewer’s eye is drawn to your face. Unless you choose your clothing carefully, it’s possible for the viewer’s eye to be diverted to the clothing.
CLOTHING COLOR AND STYLE MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
- Stripes, plaids, and bold prints draw the eye away from the face and do not photograph well.
- Bare shoulders or tops with “spaghetti straps” often make the subject look heavier and take the eyes away from the face.
- Usually intense colors such as red and orange overpower the image and overwhelm the face.
- If you wear glasses be sure to take the lenses out before your portrait session or ask your optometrist for a pair of empty frames. This is to avoid any difficult glares or reflections that will incur retouch charges.
- Skin Problems! Don’t worry. Our finished portraits can be fully retouched to eliminate blemishes and soften harsh lines.
- For close ups, long sleeves are essential for teens and adults, as bare arms call attention to themselves and will over power the face.

ENJOY THE FUN OF AN OUTDOOR SESSION!
- Bring a casual outfit that will blend with natural outdoor settings. Earth tones are an excellent choice! Tones of black, brown, khaki, rust, wine or blue work well.
- Bring props to show your personality and the type of activities you are involved in.
Planning your child’s portrait! (back to top)
At no time in your child’s life will changes occur so rapidly as in their first year. Baby’s first year is a perfect time for your first family portrait or to create the ultimate heirloom.
We offer a variety of ways for you to preserve these special moments from wall collections to “A Year in the Life” storybook albums.

When you purchase “A Year in the Life” package you will receive 4 portrait sessions that will be planned every 3 months at 3,6,9 and 12 months. It is never too early or too late to start capturing the rapid transformations of your rising star.
As far as clothing for infants and toddlers, little ones photograph best in simple clothes that will not overpower their delicate features. Whites and pastels are classic choices. For infants this is also a great time for no cloths at all!
Planning your family portrait! (back to top)
In a Family group, proper clothing coordination is critical. When considering decorating your home, a major concern is to coordinate to the colors and tones of your walls and furniture.

It is also important that within the group you all stay within a similar tonal range with the color of your clothing. If you blend darks and lights there is usually visual confusion as the light colors will come forward and stand out and the darks will recede and blend in. Color coordination also gives the portrait a sense of unity.
